Spokane, Washington may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about wineries, but this charming city has a flourishing wine scene that shouldn’t be overlooked. Whether you’re looking to enjoy something locally made, or are simply looking to enjoy imbibing locally, there are plenty of wineries around Spokane for wine tasting enthusiasts.

Many of these wineries offer tasting rooms located in downtown Spokane, which I’ve always found helpful when visiting guests ask me to go wine tasting! Each provides a distinct experience, from the historic charm of Barrister Winery to the diverse selection at Nectar Tasting Room. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, exploring these recommended wineries is an excellent way to savor and celebrate Spokane’s flourishing wine culture.

If you’re looking for some of the best wine in Washington state, Spokane wineries are where it’s at. Eastern Washington in particular produces exceptional wine, as it has the drier, sunnier climate that grapes seek. The best part about these Spokane, Washington wineries? Many of them are fairly close to each other, so you can turn this into a wine tour!

Wineries and Tasting Rooms Around Spokane

Arbor Crest Wine Cellars

Located atop a scenic hillside overlooking Spokane, Arbor Crest Wine Cellars offers visitors a charming and picturesque estate to enjoy the beauty of their surroundings – and, in our opinion, some of the best wines in Spokane. The estate boasts private gazebos, picnic seating, and romantic private nooks that provide the perfect atmosphere to relax and unwind while savoring the exquisite wines on offer.

Arbor Crest Wine Cellars presents patrons with a delightful selection of tasting flights, allowing guests to sample and savor a variety of red, white wines, and mixed wines. Alongside these delightful wines, an array of appetizers is also available to complement and enhance the tasting experience.

Outdoor events at Arbor Crest are beautiful, and the food and drinks are top notch!

With your wine flights, you can choose from red, white or a mix. Wine flights change monthly, so it gives you an excellent reason to keep coming back! Pro-tip: If you see Dionysus on the wine flight list, get it! It’s my absolute favorite, full-bodied red. It’s a classic for a reason!

In addition to delicious wine, Arbor Crest offers live music events throughout the year, with their Summer Concert Series and Fireside Music in the winter. Having attended both of these events over the years, I’d say they’re both different enough that you should go to both!

The summer concert series is outdoors, with more space, and many people bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and their own cutlery to enjoy the delicious bites Arbor Crest offers. The fireside music series is more intimate, in their cozy tasting room. I recommend enjoying some dessert with your wine during the fireside concerts!

Arbor Crest is also open for private events, like weddings, as well as special events. It’s truly one of those unique experiences you should have when you visit Spokane!

Winescape

Winescape Winery is a haven for wine enthusiasts, offering a unique experience that focuses on authenticity, exploration, with a little dash of science. With its picturesque winery nestled amidst rolling hills, Winescape Winery is the winery to visit in Spokane if you want to explore wine culture and creation while enjoying the wine itself. Located in Spokane’s South Hill, much of the “wine work” is done on site, too, including grape runs, crushing, fermenting, and more.

What I really love about Winescape is their commitment to the science behind wines. Drs. Butterfield, Patricia and Phil Butterfield, were both professors at Washington State University, focusing on public health and the environment. If you get a chance to talk to either of them, you’ll quickly learn just how focused Winescape is on creating exceptional wine, and they’re both knowledgeable and passionate about it. Visit during crush season, and you’ll get to see all of it in action!

While you can purchase Winescape wine online, and throughout Spokane, the best way, in my opinion, to enjoy it is by visiting! My favorite Winescape wine is the cheekily named Marmot Incarnate, but you can find so many options at Winescape, both red and white. In addition to the delightful wine, Winescape also hosts live music and other events throughout the year.

Just don’t blame me if you end up walking away having signed up for their wine club – it’s almost impossible not to!

Maryhill Winery

Located in the vibrant Kendall Yards neighborhood of Spokane, Maryhill Winery offers wine enthusiasts an exquisite experience overlooking the magnificent Spokane River and downtown Spokane.

In response to the increasing demand for its exceptional wines in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene metro area, Maryhill decided to expand its presence by opening its first satellite tasting room in Fall 2017. This move has garnered immense enthusiasm from locals and tourists alike, who can now enjoy the winery’s award-winning wines right in the heart of Spokane.

Maryhill Winery boasts an extensive range of wines, providing something for every palate. From crisp and refreshing whites like Chardonnay and Riesling to rich and robust reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, their collection showcases the artistry and passion behind their wine production. They also offer specialty wines like rosé and dessert wines, ensuring a diverse selection and catering to different preferences.

Over the last two years, Maryhill has continued to impress with their menu, too! Maryhill in Kendall Yards is now a place where you can meet up with friends after work and get a great meal in addition to great wine.

My recommendation? Get the wine flight! You’ll get a great selection of rotating wines and can choose your favorite. It’s one of the most robust wine flights on this list, and there’s nothing like a beautiful summer day, on Maryhill’s patio overlooking the river, with good friends and an incredible wine flight.

Barrister Winery

Nestled in the heart of downtown Spokane, Barrister Winery is a tucked away local favorite. Located in the vibrant Cork District, this winery offers visitors a unique experience combining art, wine, and relaxation.

As you enter the winery, you will find yourself immersed in a world of creativity. The art gallery showcases local artists’ works, adding a touch of elegance to the rustic charm of the building. The courtyard, adorned with beautiful flowers and lush greenery, offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city. It is the perfect spot to sip on a glass of Barrister’s finest wines and soak in the enchanting surroundings.

Once inside, make your way to the tasting bar, where knowledgeable staff will guide you through a delightful journey of flavor and aroma. Sample a variety of wines, from crisp whites to bold reds, and discover your new favorite. Barrister is open daily for tastings, opening at noon, excluding holidays. Throughout the year, you can also enjoy live music, so make sure to bookmark their website for the latest information.

Founded by two lawyers (hence the Barrister name), Barrister Wines consistently receive 90+ point scores in the industry’s prestigious wine magazines, and in addition to buying Barrister wines at Barrister Winery, you’ll also find them served at Luna, Anthony’s, 1898 Public House, Downriver Grill and many other locations.

Latah Creek Wine Cellars

Latah Creek Wine Cellars is a beloved family-owned winery located in Spokane Valley. With a long-standing tradition of producing exceptional wines, they have become a destination for wine enthusiasts seeking unique tasting experiences.

At Latah Creek Wine Cellars, visitors can explore a wide array of vintages, each crafted with passion and expertise. From rich reds to crisp whites and everything in between, their wine collection encompasses a diverse range of flavors and styles to suit varying palates. People regularly laud Latah Creek Wine Cellars for their friendliness, helpful demeanor, and overall pleasant atmosphere. It’s one of the best places to take out of town visitors, especially if they happen to be staying in the Valley!

Not sure what to get? Wine Spectator Magazine has awarded Latah Creek as one of the top producers of Merlot in the state of Washington, but you can also enjoy wine tasting until you find something you love!

Cougar Crest Winery

Cougar Crest is an excellent winery to take out of town visitors and guests not only because of its great wines, but also its location. Located right in the heart of downtown Spokane, Cougar is near other wineries on this list (including Barrister and Tempus Cellars next door), making it a great place to start your winery journey around Spokane.

As a satellite tasting room of the estate winery situated in Walla Walla, WA, Cougar Crest provides visitors with a taste of the exceptional wines that the winery is known for.

When you step into Cougar Crest Winery, you are welcomed by friendly and knowledgeable staff who are ready to guide you through the tasting experience. One thing I’ve always enjoyed at Cougar Crest is the knowledgeable staff who really pay attention to you and walk you through the wine you’re tasting.

If you’re the type of person who likes to ask a lot of questions about wine, Cougar Crest should absolutely be a stop on your list, because you’ll get that individual attention here. And if you’re hungry after your wine tasting, you’re next door to one of the best downtown lunch spots in Spokane – Cochinito!

Tempus Cellars

Located just next door to Cougar Crest Winery, Tempus Cellars in downtown Spokane is a must visit. Tempus Cellars began in 2006 and has now expanded to its tasting room in Spokane, although you can also find Tempus in Walla Walla and Seattle.

At its Spokane location, you can try reds, whites and even enjoy artisan foods to enhance your wine tasting experience. Get the cheese plate!

At Tempus, you’ll also enjoy the same individual attention you get at Cougar Crest – and let me say, if you visit Cougar Crest or Tempus first on your Spokane wine journey, don’t necessarily get used to the individual attention. Most other wineries bring your wine and allow you to enjoy in peace, but Tempus and Cougar Crest are learning experiences, which I personally love.

Tempus is open Wednesday – Sunday for limited hours, so make sure to try to plan your Cougar Crest and Tempus visit on a day that Tempus is open, since Cougar Crest has more flexible hours.

Helix Wines

Helix Wines is a remarkable boutique winery that places the utmost emphasis on the wine itself. Known for their exceptional vintages and varieties, Helix Wines offers a wide selection of wines from their own label as well as Reininger Winery.

At Helix Wines, the dedication to crafting high-quality wines shines through their range of white and red varieties. From crisp and refreshing whites to rich and full-bodied reds, there is something to satisfy every wine connoisseur’s palate.

Also located conveniently in downtown Spokane, across the street from Historic Davenport, the tasting room in Spokane is cozy and intimate, but rarely feels crowded. You can also order light bites at Helix, making this a great option if you’re starting to get hungry or need something to go along with your fantastic wine.

Craftsman Cellars

Continue your wine journey north, back to Kendall Yards. Maryhill is only one of the incredible wine options in this area, and Craftsman Cellars is another terrific option within walking distance.

Craftsman Cellars is a prominent winery known for its exceptional winemaking approach that gracefully combines the art and science of crafting wine. Founded by Greg Shelman, Craftsman Cellars is passionate about producing wines that beautifully showcase the craftsmanship and artistry involved in winemaking, while harnessing the advances of modern science.

Craftsman Cellars understands that winemaking is not just a scientific process, but an artistic one as well. They firmly believe that the combination of these two elements is what makes their wines truly remarkable. By integrating the precision and technical knowledge gained from scientific research with the intuitive and creative aspects of winemaking, Craftsman Cellars has been successful in crafting wines that are truly soulful.

If you decide to order a wine flight, you’ll also be served crackers to cleanse your palette – I really appreciated that! Note: This tasting room only has red wine as tasting options, so that’s something to know before you go!

Pro-tip: This is an excellent place to spend some time before, during or after the Kendall Yards Night Market Spokane farmers market! It’s not as ‘in the middle’ of the farmers market at Maryhill is, so it’s slightly more relaxed during these busy events.

Terra Blanca

Located in the heart of Spokane’s downtown district, Terra Blanca is a trendy tasting room that boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, offering visitors a stunning view of the bustling cityscape. Stepping into this elegant space, guests are immediately struck by the contemporary and stylish design, making it the perfect spot to indulge in a memorable wine tasting experience.

In addition to its elegant decor, Terra Blanca is known for its monthly rotation of local art that is proudly displayed throughout the space. This artistic touch adds a vibrant and dynamic element to the tasting room, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere for visitors to enjoy.

In the summer, you can enjoy the patio with your delicious wines, and Terra Blanca also has some snacks you can order and enjoy as well. I like to bring out of town guests to Terra Blanca because it’s such a unique environment, and everyone who works there is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They’re also more than happy to help share downtown tips, like where to eat and park, while you’re visiting!

Townshend Cellar

Looking for a unique wine tasting experience in Spokane? Visit Townshend Cellar, near Chief Garry Park, to enjoy delicious wines and experience the wine-making process all in the same location!

In addition to enjoying glasses of wine at Townshend, you can also take your favorite wine to go with their refillable bottles, called Wowlers. These 1 liter wine growlers are super bottle, and an environmentally-friendly way to enjoy your favorite wine at home!

Founded in 1998, this second generation winery offers red, whites, and (my favorite), sparkling wines. Their sparkling brut is a must-try if you like sparkling wines!

Overbluff Cellars

One of the most unique wineries in downtown Spokane is Overbluff, housed in the historic Washington Cracker Building. Yes, the Cracker building used to be house a cracker company and was built in 1891. It has since been restored and now is not only a winery, but also an event venue space – it also houses other companies, too!

Located on the first floor of the Cracker Building, Overbluff Cellars doesn’t just have tons of historic charm – it also has lots of delicious wine and friendly faces! Order a tasting flight and, when the weather is nice, enjoy your wine on the patio. To continue the delicious night (or day!), visit Inland Pacific Kitchen next door for a swanky, romantic night out in Spokane

Thomas Clare Cellars

One of the newer wineries on this list, Thomas Clare Cellars is on the way to the north side of Spokane, but don’t let its distance from downtown Spokane dissuade you from visiting! Started in 2015, Thomas Clare Cellars offers classic wines, from red varieties like Petit Verdot and Sangiovese, to whites, like Chardonnay and Riesling.

The tasting room at Thomas Clare Cellars is known for its personable service, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere to visitors. From the moment you step in, you are greeted with friendly smiles and a genuine passion for wine. Not a wine fan, or want to bring someone who doesn’t love wine? Don’t worry – they also serve beer! The rustic decor and comfortable seating arrangements further enhance the overall experience, making you feel right at home.

If you’re looking for a more casual place to enjoy wine, check out Thomas Clare Cellars. Throughout the year, they also feature live music, so make sure to follow them on social media

This enchanting establishment boasts a remarkable selection of high quality cheeses and wines, inviting visitors to embark on a sensory journey like no other. It’s a great place to visit if you’re seeking fine wine not just from the Inland Northwest, but all over the world!

If you want to stop and get a glass, you absolutely should! Wanderlust’s charcuterie board is exquisite – I honestly recommend getting two, especially if you’re going with friends. Or if you’re going with me, because I don’t share! Visit during happy hour to enjoy discounted wine, too!

You’ll fid many of the wines listed above at Wanderlust Delicato, and if you can’t find what you’re looking for, ask them! The owner, Amber, is extremely knowledgeable about wine and cheese and can definitely direct you to something delicious.

Nectar Wine and Beer

Kendall Yards really is the place to be if you love wine – in addition to two dedicated wineries, one of my favorite farmers markets, and a beautiful walking path in the form of Centennial Trail, it also has Nectar Wine and Beer.

In addition to wine tastings, you can enjoy a meal and buy wine and beer to go. When it’s not snowing, Nectar’s patio is delightful – the view of the river is incredible!

Spokane offers a flourishing and diverse wine scene for enthusiasts to explore. From historic downtown tasting rooms like Barrister Winery to riverfront patios at Maryhill Winery, wine lovers have no shortage of charming destinations to sample exceptional vintages. Whether you prefer the cozy, tucked-away atmospheres of wineries like Helix or Tempus Cellars, or the sweeping vineyard views offered at Arbor Crest, Spokane wineries provide unique spaces to unwind and elevate every sip.

Beyond the tasting rooms, wine connoisseurs can further indulge at cheese and wine havens like Wanderlust Delicato, which offers guidance on expert pairings. With acclaimed wineries crafting exceptional bottles often garnering national accolades, and a community eager to share their passion, Spokane continues to grow as a premier wine destination in Washington. From casual tastings to special events, there is something to satisfy every palate and preference when it comes to enjoying wine in Spokane.
